“Heather was absolutely amazing! For a bride who is not the best at planning, Heather managed to know exactly what I needed and wanted. She was extremely professional and made sure that we got all of the pictures I wanted and more. I am so happy we chose Heather.”
The HHP Experience is different because it’s all about YOU, YOUR story, and YOUR experience.
Photos evoke memories of a moment in time. The events before and after the picture is taken are part of that memory, AND the experience you had with your photographer who took the photos.
This is the main reason most people go looking for a professional photographer. To have amazing pictures of an important, irreplaceable time in their life.
With a degree in photojournalism and almost 20 years of professional experience, I know how to help you look your best while having fun.
Real moments are always a top priority, and I also want you to look great in your photos – so I help you look amazing in a natural way and encourage a few funny moments and lots of love & laughter along the way.

The HHP Wedding Experience
Tell me your story
I really want to know how you met, the interests you share, why you chose your wedding date and location. Knowing these details also helps me better tell YOUR story so I can be looking for things on the wedding day that tie in and ideas we can incorporate into your portraits.
Let’s make everything EASIER for you
You are busy & planning a wedding can be a little overwhelming. So whether you want to meet at a coffee shop, venue, or Skype, the easier for you the better. I am a full-time photographer so I am flexible to work around your schedule.
I can HELP you
I created a great guide with a portrait checklist, timeline worksheet, vendor list, and a few helpful tips that will help you stress less and I will be there to guide & help you throughout the whole process. My goal is that before the big day, you feel prepared, relaxed, and EXCITED about having your pictures taken (even for the most photo shy).
My Guide has more about the day of experience, and what to expect after the wedding. If you are interested, click HERE to get my Photographer’s Guide to a Picture-Perfect Wedding Day.
And be sure to check out some recent Wedding Stories to see how I create fun, romantic, and beautiful timeless images of your memories that everyone will treasure for generations. (I’m a little slow posting on my blog, for REALLY recent work check out instagram #hhpva)
The Portrait Experience
Whether you’re engaged, expecting your first child, or a family of five, CONGRATULATIONS on looking for a creative & fun way to capture this fleeting moment in your life!
Portrait sessions with me are FUN! Mostly outdoors and filled with laughter and memories (and often a few bubbles ;).
I have been doing portraits since my days as a newspaper photographer and spent the last couple of years investing even more into my skills, so the experience with me is truly amazing. I offer gorgeous Fine Art prints & wall art that you will love displaying and showing off to your friends & families as well as complimentary “face swapping” normally only offered in a studio setting.
Share your story
I want to know how you met, the interests you share, what you LOVE about each other. These details help me better tell your story, carry out your vision, and create unique images.
What to Expect
Leading up to the session I make any necessary access arrangements and send you my What to Wear Guide in case you are looking for additional tips & suggestions.
The day of the session I usually bring an assistant to help by carrying lights for me, and they can carry things for you too. This way everyone can focus on having fun while walking around or climbing trees instead of lugging around a change of clothes or the blanket.

I make things EASIER for you
You have your hands full with a new baby, or caring for your family. I am a full-time photographer so I can work around your schedule and make things as easy for you as possible. We can meet before or after the session to see the gorgeous Fine Art quality I am proud to offer, or simply view the gallery online, whichever works better for you.
What to Expect
Leading up to a family session I gather any props, make necessary location arrangements, and send you a few helpful tips.
DAY OF – I may bring my assistant to help me blow bubbles, make silly faces, or carry our things.
FAMILIES – I focus on lots of laughter & try to get some natural moments along with a couple “smiling at the camera” for grandma.
NEWBORNS – I set up a mini studio in your home (where possible) to get the adorable prop photos with my basket, wraps, or family heirlooms. Or for a more natural session, I focus on natural moments in the nursery, bedroom, or around the home (no backdrop space needed). Many times, I try to get a little of both.
I only need a 6 x 8 foot space cleared for a backdrop and typically set up in a living room or bedroom. In-home sessions are GREAT because you have everything you could need or want at your fingertips.
Most importantly, for newborn sessions, the only thing you have to do to prepare is make the house warm enough for a few naked baby pictures, I handle the rest! Click HERE for my Newborn Guide on preparing for your in-home session to learn more.
