“Heather was very sweet and genuine and an awesome person to work with! Heather was always right in the moment, but never in our spotlight! She never asked us to reenact an event or hold poses awkwardly. I am so happy Heather was our photographer and I can’t wait to work with her again for our family pictures!”
As you probably already know, getting along with your photographer is just as important as loving their photos. And maybe even more so.
Photos evoke memories of a moment in time. The sounds, smells, and events before and after the picture was taken are part of that memory, as well as the amazing experience you had with your photographer who took the photos. So if we haven’t had the chance to work together yet, here is how my portrait sessions are a little different –
The Portrait Experience
Time flies. Whether you’re engaged, expecting your first child, or a family of five, this moment will be gone too fast. And I know this too well, about to celebrate my son’s 5th birthday and we STILL don’t have a nice family portrait to hang on the wall (and my husband is a professional photographer too)! But this is mostly because we don’t want a cheesy mall photo of us with an outdated backdrop. We want laughter, outdoors, fun!!! All tough to do as a selfie or with a self timer.
I have been doing portraits since my days as a newspaper photographer and spent 2017 investing in my skills, so starting in 2018 the whole experience with me will be even more amazing. I now have a faster turnaround – proofs online within 3 days – and gorgeous Fine Art prints that you will love displaying.
I want to hear about you! How you met, the interests you share, why you chose your wedding date and location, why you LOVE your dress. Knowing these details also helps me better tell your story and tie in personal details into your portraits as well as make location suggestions.
Leading up to the session I make any necessary access arrangements and send you what to wear tips. The day of the session I often have an assistant help carry lights for me, a sheet to keep your dress clean, or your bag with a change of clothes, and then we relax and focus on getting great backgrounds, laughter, love (this includes some PDA ;), and having fun walking, climbing trees, and doing things with a few sitting & smiling for the camera.
I am all about making things EASIER for you! While I prefer to meet at Panera (Starbucks tables are a little small for my print & album display) I am always willing to drive 30 miles to get closer to you, meet at your home, or set up a Skype call or regular call, whatever makes it easier for you. You have your hands full getting ready for baby or caring for your family so we meet on your schedule before the session whenever possible.
Leading up to the session I make necessary arrangements, send you how to prepare guides and what to wear tips, and the day of the session I may have an assistant to help carry lights, blow bubbles, or make silly faces and noises as needed. For families, I try to get lots of laughter and have a Classic and Lifestyle option. For my newborns and all 2 hr. sessions you get the best of both worlds (classic AND lifestyle portraits) and for newborns I set up a mini studio in your home (where possible) to get the adorable prop photos with my basket along with natural moments in the nursery or around the home.
