High School Senior Portraits

On April 21, I met up with Kaia in Williamsburg, VA to photograph her senior portraits. A high school senior who loves the outdoors, Kaia did a great job avoiding the “farmers tan” and I only had to retouch a few mosquito bites. With some great fashion sense and a beautiful smile, I truly enjoyed her senior session and wish her the very best as she heads off to college.

Williamsburg Senior Portrait Sessions

One of the other things I enjoy is sharing the story behind the images. Kaia’s senior portrait session had a great story! I always scout out locations before a photo shoot, and our beach location off the Colonial Parkway had the perfect breeze when I scouted it just over an hour before we got there. Unfortunately, that breeze was completely gone when we got there, and the no-see-ums were ALL over us! Kaia and I had to take a break every five minutes on the beach AND in the grass when they got too bad. Those pesky things were in our eyes and faces so we strategically moved around to give the bugs time to disperse.

But, the end result was totally worth it! We got some GREAT shots in the grass and on the beach. And, in an unexpected benefit, the bugs even made for a fairytale-like glitter in the background. You’d never know the struggle we went through by looking at these portraits! And Kaia had such a wonderful style for her portrait session. I always recommend against red shirts (since they can reflect and make you look sunburnt) but her red wedges were the perfect accent!

Spring Portrait Session

Another story tidbit from this photo session, my assistant had to rush to Urgent Care right before the shoot, which was at dinnertime on Easter Sunday. Because of the holiday, I didn’t have time to get a replacement. Luckily, Kaia and her mom were patient with me as I took a little longer to move my lights and set them up myself. I used to work solo all the time, so it wasn’t hard, but it took a little longer and they were so awesome about it!

Kaia, thank you so much for asking me to be your senior portrait photographer. I am so happy with the results and am overjoyed that you were too.  I wish you the best of luck in all that your future holds!
